Nioxin Scalp Recovery Shampoo & Conditioner
Nioxin Scalp Recovery is specifically designed to treat scalp-related problems, including seborrheic dermatitis and dandruff. It provides moisture balance to dry, itchy scalp skin and dry hair, eliminating irritation and flaking.
Scalp Recovery Medicating Cleanser: an anti-dandruff shampoo with dermatologist-tested active ingredients to cleanse the scalp and reduce hair loss associated with itching. To use: emulsify a small amount of shampoo in your hands and work into your scalp with a massaging motion. Allow the shampoo to sit on your scalp for a few minutes and rinse thoroughly. Repeat if necessary.
The shampoo is instantly soothing with a menthol feel (but thankfully not overly medicated smelling) that relieves itch and does not cause additional dryness. It effectively cleanses the hair and scalp and removes flakes.
Scalp Recovery Moisturizing Conditioner: a daily conditioner that helps reduce dandruff, soothing the scalp and providing smoothness and manageability to the hair. To use: emulsify a small amount of conditioner into your hands and work into your scalp with a massaging motion. Work through to the ends of your hair to detangle. Allow the conditioner to sit on your scalp for a few minutes and rinse very very well.
The conditioner is wonderful. It conditions your dry scalp without weighing your hair down. Hair is tangle free, shiny, and soft.
Nioxin Scalp Recovery Soothing Serum
The shampoo and conditioner are pretty amazing, but alone (in my experience) only relieve mild cases of dandruff and dry scalp. For more severe cases of seborrheic dermatitis, severe itching, and embarrassing flakes, the Nioxin Scalp Recovery Soothing Serum is the answer.
Nioxin Recovery Soothing Serum is a soothing leave-on treatment to help relieve dandruff and scalp itching associated with seborrheic dermatitis, leaving the scalp 100% flake free.
It works like an absolute dream, and is an almost instant answer for many cases of dry, itchy scalp. For the first treatment, I applied the serum to the scalp (at night) by dropping several drops of serum directly on the scalp. Then, using the pads of my fingers, worked the serum into the scalp, massaging the serum into the skin for 30 to 60 seconds. We experienced instant relief, with significantly reduced itching and discomfort. The next day, the flakes were eliminated by more than 50%, itching nearly 100% eliminated, and redness was completely gone.
You can use the serum up to 4 times per day, depending on your level of discomfort, itching, and flaking. I used the product twice a day and within two short days, all symptoms were gone.
How to Get Results Using Nioxin Scalp Recovery
Some people experience dry scalp all year round, others only during dry climate months (fall and winter, typically). To prevent your dry, flaky scalp start using the shampoo and conditioner as soon as you notice the slightest symptoms. The shampoo, conditioner, and serum should be used daily when you first start treatments. When the moisture in your scalp has been restored, you can continue to use the system daily or reintroduce your favorite shampoo and conditioner (although I wouldn't be surprised if Scalp Recovery became your new favorite) and use the Scalp Recovery System every-other shampoo, or as little as once per week. Your regular use will depend on the level of dryness you experience.
As I said previously, the serum can be used up to 4 times per day. When you first start treatments, and especially for more severe cases, you'll want to use the serum as often as possible. I found that heavier amounts put on before bedtime resulted in vast improvements by morning. Use caution as to the amount of serum you use, too much can cause a greasy effect. As your symptoms decrease, you will find that you can use the serum less often. I would recommend continued use of the serum (perhaps as little as once or twice a week) to maintain your healthy, moisturized scalp without symptoms returning. Your level of discomfort, dryness, and itching should dictate how much and how often the serum is used.
