Kate Gosselin's Hair... Do? or Don't?

Tuesday May 19, 2009
Everyone seems to be discussing the Gosselin Family, from TLC's "John & Kate Plus 8", these days. Kate Gosselin Between the recent rumors of divorce and deception, to Mom Kate's hair, it seems that this family of ten is in the spotlight all the time.

I've always had a love/hate relationship with Kate's hair. It's an asymmetrical haircut, which by definition, is shorter on one side than the other. In my current profile photo, I have an asymmetrical style and you can view lots of other asymmetrical haircuts all over the internet. I think asymmetrical haircuts can look great on women of all ages, if done properly.

Kate's haircut quite unique; with the very short spikes in the back and the extremely long, un-layered piece in the front on her right side. I love her highlights and I really liked the cut in earlier seasons, before she had the extreme long piece in the front and the super short spikes in the back. Now, I think it needs blended a little or something. I'm just not crazy about it. Check out what Julyne's reader's on About.com's Beauty site had to say earlier this week, and I'd love to hear your thoughts here as well!

I just wanted to say that I am a hair stylist and this cut is ridiculous. I love asymmetrical cuts. As a matter of fact, I have one. The side with the long piece needs layered to blend it into the cut. Honestly, it looks like an ammature did this! My 11 year old daughter could cut this. In the world of hair, or even in hair school, this cut would never be allowed on the cover of a magazine. I guess the only reason it is on one now is because it’s on Kate. Here’s some advice Kate. Tell your stylist to go take some refresher courses on hair cutting and learn to blend. Maybe she just forgot that step while too busy gossiping about your divorce!
