As a hair stylist, I have quite literally had about every color of hair imaginable. Experimenting is just part of the gig. Some colors were great, but I have to admit that the bright florescent red wasn't exactly a compliment to my skin tone. I guess this is a "live and learn" example!

When you are ready to completely change your color, how can you be sure that you won't end up walking out of the salon and directly to the nearest hat store? My advice, is to go prepared. Too true. Be prepared and definately go to the Salon for the best in hair color – forget the at-home box colors. You never quite know what you’ll get with those. Another thing to remember about hair color is that you can prolong it and tone it by using a good color depositing shampoo and conditioner. Artec by Loreal used to have a great line of color shampoo and conditioner that could help. Their browns and reds could keep those hair colors looking fresh and vibrant, and the Violet would help tone down brassiness in blondes. Their formula actually contained hair color molecules suspended in the hair care product. Sadly they have discontinued that line, but http://www.haircareusa.com lists some great alternatives including Tressa Watercolors Color Shampoo, All-Nutrient Color + Shampoo, and Altobella ClayPac Color Depositing Shampoo and Conditioner. Any of these will help prolong your hair color’s life and tone down unwanted color.
